Letter-to-the-Editor: Is Salisbury Still Serious about Slowing Traffic to a Crawl on East Innes?

Miriam Robinson, Salisbury, N.C.

♦ I guess I’m not all that surprised anymore about what our lame city of Salisbury is proposing to do. First they are going to hide the Farmer’s Market on the cop lot over in one of the more dangerous areas of the city by the Train Depot. Then they’re going to spend a lot of money designing a place for festivals. Meanwhile the city is falling to pieces and over a quarter of its population are poor. This morning they’re back to trying to figure out whether they want to destroy traffic patterns on East Innes and Long Street with “traffic Calming”.  East Innes may be the worst street to drive in the state from 3 pm. to 5:30 p.m. It gets backed up almost every day.  We’re supposed to get another crack at a public input session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church, 432 S. Long St.  They’re calling it “Complete Streets” and wasting $120,000 on this ridiculous plan.  Anyone with a lick of sense would not slowdown traffic on East Innes.
