♦ As a candidate for Rowan County Commissioner, I attended the Forum on Thursday morning at the Trolley Barn in “Beautiful Downtown Salisbury”. It was well attended by the Salisbury First, Last and Always crowd. These folks spoke to each other and assured each other that their PROGRESSIVE ideas will work, and that even though the city government has had the same failed leadership for 15 or more years, it’s not their fault that Salisbury is in decline. They supported the Carolina Thread Trail, an Agenda 21 style program that the left has used to seize private property and create an unelected regional authority that will dictate land use in 11 counties in both NC and SC.
A survey of 5 questions was formed and I would like to make my answers public so the people of Rowan can get to know my thoughts and values. Here are the 5 questions:
Choose up to 10 of the most important assets for attracting new jobs and investments in Rowan County. This question has 110 options to check.
#3 on the list – Interstate I-85
When I decided to come to NC, I chose Rowan County because of its central location and access to I-85. Our County sits in the middle of just over 2 million people within an hour’s drive of Charlotte, Winston Salem, Hickory and Greensboro. What we are lacking are exit ramps for the Southern half of the County. An Exchange off I-85 for Beatties Ford Rd. has long been stalled by the same people presenting the revitalization of Beautiful Salisbury, hereto referred to for this article as BS. Distribution companies should be flocking to Rowan County, and some have, ie. Aldi Food Stores.
#5 on the list – 4 Colleges
Again, we need to thank the county commissioners for their support of the RCCC, and I hope to 21 on the list – continue that support. Our community college is also being used as a training center to help retrain some of our unemployed, and if done well, this is a good use of this valuable resource.
#17 on the list – Diverse range of affordable property
A diverse range of affordable property, both for Industrial and commercial growth is available. Our county taxes are reasonable and steady, thanks to the hard work of the commissioners and the County Manager. We also have a diverse inventory of residential opportunities ranging from just below $100,000 all the way to fine estate homes.
#Rowan County Airport
Thank you County Commissioners for working with Carl Ford, Gene McLaurin, Andrew Brock, and Harry Warren to claw back the airport form the 2004 theft by the BS. The return of the airport was long overdue and now I look forward to working with the other commissioners to use the upgraded facilities to attract more business to our whole county.
#48 on the list – Good public and private health care
Though health care is in turmoil right now with the Affordable Care Act, our local doctors and clinics are working hard to provide services to the residents. The formation of Novant Health, #62 on the list, could be a real plus to our county, but only time will tell if this relatively huge company can treat our citizens with the true feeling of our individual medical community.
#59 on the list – Dan Nicholas Park and other Community Parks
We have an abundance of parks and recreational facilities in our County and they need to be maintained and improved. However the North Carolina Thread Trail and their Agenda 21 plans is not the way to accomplish those goals.
#60 on the list – High Rock Lake
This beautiful lake is the second largest in our State. Its water is clean and safe, and land and housing around the lake is reasonably priced. It is a true recreational gem.
#63 on the list – VA Medical Center
Our VA Medical Center is one of our biggest and oldest employers and a true asset to the County.
These are some of my thoughts on the first question of this survey and I hope you will consider me in the upcoming primary May 6th
Respectfully
