RFP Staff
♦ According to inside sources at the “retooling” Salisbury Post, Boone Newspapers Inc., in a series of economic moves, are pruning staff. Former editor Chris Verner left last month along with a number of key staffers. More employees are expected to be trimmed in the next 60-90 days. Remaining employees complain about their workloads being increased, doing double duty, and the loss of vacation time. Vacations are said to be a maximum 2 weeks tops now despite many long-time veterans having had 4 plus weeks based on longevity.
Expected along with additional staff trimming are the dumping of quarterly special editions and HS graduation edition. Whether the Post will go to a three times a week newspaper is yet undecided.
Our best wishes to all Post employees during this turbulent period of transition.
