♦ Monday the county commissioners met at 4 p.m. in closed session. The meeting lasted less than hour to decide on a final candidate to offer the county manager’s job. Gary Page, the present county manager, will leave office this coming Friday after being on the job since 2008.
After the meeting I met with commissioner Mike Caskey and spoke with Chairman Jim Sides on the phone who informed me they had a candidate in mind, but could not name him until he accepted the position and he was officially approved by the commissioners in open session during the upcoming September 2nd meeting. If all goes well the likely start date for a new county manager would be on October 1st. If the finalist accepts the county’s offer, he would have several weeks to give a proper notice at their current job.
Some thirteen candidates applied and no, Doug Paris was not among them. The county commissioners considered four finalists during a closed session last Monday before narrowing the field to a single finalist.
