♦I’m reading today the price of the proposed Taj Mahal down on South Main just dropped a million dollars and city hall is all smiles. Well glory be these characters should’ve discovered the miracle of actual bidding a long time ago. You get better prices from bidding than “friends”.
I am so glad county commissioners forced the school system to wait and be more prudent. So much for school board chairman Dr. Richard Miller’s rants about “This is the right time and the right price.” Today’s headlines proved that was total baloney.
The Local Government Commission will no doubt pole-ax the city’s ill-thought out “lease” and send the whole caboodle back to square one. Why not wait two years and watch the Taj Mahal’s price drop even more. No big rush. With an all new school board two years from now, a more frugal Central Office could be built elsewhere for maybe 4 million. Windows too and Tornado proof. There’s absolutely no need to cater to Salisbury’s desperate downtown merchants–half of them will be gone anyhow. Two years from now is the right time and the right price.
