♦ Rowan County Chamber of Commerce announces a Candidate Forums Scheduled for October 14 and 16
Salisbury, NC – (October 6, 2014) The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce invites you to two upcoming Candidate Forums to be held on Tues., October 14, and Thurs., October 16. Both events will be held at 6 p.m., at Catawba College, Ketner Hall, Tom Smith Auditorium (2300 W. Innes Street, Salisbury).
The forums are sponsored by the Salisbury Post, Catawba College, WSAT and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the event is to educate voters about the candidates and their stands on issues of importance to the business community.
Moderator Dr. Michael Bitzer (Catawba College) will ask the candidates questions submitted to the Salisbury Post. Please send questions to be considered to editor@salisburypost.com.
For the Oct. 14 forum — all candidates for Rowan Salisbury School Board were invited to participate. The Candidates that have confirmed their attendance are incumbents: Jean Kennedy Richard Miller, Kay Wright Norman, and LA. Overcash, and; challengers: Travis Allen, Phil Harden, Dean Hunter and W.F. Owens.
For the Oct. 16 forum – all candidates for Rowan County Board of Commissioners were invited and have confirmed their participation: Leda Belk, Chris Cohen, Raymond Coltrain, Greg Edds, Jim Greene, Judy Klusman, Richard Locklear and Gene Miller.
Also, for the Oct. 16 forum – all candidates for Sheriff, Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds were invited to provide a brief introduction at the end of the forum.
The forums are free and open to the public; however, seating is limited. If you are unable to attend the event, you may watch it on Channel 16 (it will be broadcast several times prior to election day). You may also listen to it on the radio live with Memories WSAT1280 and WRNA1140/WRKB1460 and by live audio hookup on the Rowan Free Press.
The Chamber holds annual Candidate Forums through the guidance of the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, which is chaired by Tim Norris (Healthcare Management Consultants). The objective of the committee is to enhance communication and discussion with local, federal and state governments on important issues relating to Rowan County, its municipalities, businesses and citizens. The committee is open to Chamber Members.
The committee reviews relevant local, state and national issues and makes policy recommendations to the Board of Directors. Particular areas of interest include business advocacy issues, community and economic development, land-use, infrastructure and transportation systems.
