♦ Have received a number of heads up from frustrated Fibrant subscribers since the start of last week about outages and disruptions in Fibrant’s unstable internet service. On Wednesday there was a lengthy outage in some parts of the city. Sources in the city are unsure what to attribute these chronic disruptions. Some believe its the “mature” recycled equipment they employed since the rollout in 2010 and others see the disruptions as due to burying their fiber optic too close to the ground surface wherein the latest freezing temperatures made it a impossible for fiber optic to transmit. Its yet another setback for the city’s badly struggling municipal broadband. It must be disheartening when they thought they solved the network stability problem with the purchase of backup.
If you are tired of lame excuses and want reliable high-speed internet, both Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-Verse are offering great deals on their internet and superior service. Truly they are Salisbury’s internet providers with experienced techs. This year they are breathtakingly raising their speeds in the Charlotte region including all of Rowan.
Perhaps Fibrant needs to unload its albatross municipal broadband to a mom n’ pop, make it a cooperative, or pack it in. In 5 years Fibrant has failed to pull the wagon. Time to jettison this prime government flop along with its deadbeat city council before Salisbury goes completely off the respirator.
“This Monday, from about 4 -5:15, we will be working on our core routers to bring up faster internet service, but it requires a very brief interruption in internet service.” Fibrant on Facebook.
Hopefully for Fibrant’s internet subscribers this morning’s disruption doesn’t lead to a system-wide blowout like the old days.
When your internet eventually returns to serviceable levels know that Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-Verse are waiting out their in the dark to receive your orders for new service.
