♦ On Monday, Matthew Ryan Lowry, 22, of Lauren Lane in the “unreconstructed county”, outdueled pursuing Salisbury Police in a high-speed chase on a 94′ Honda CBR at times roaring between 80-90 miles per hour from Salisbury to Rockwell where he was finally pulled over and arrested by the Rockwell police.
Lowry began his flight when the Salisbury Police spotted him tooling down South Main at allegedly reckless speeds near the Wells Fargo Bank. A Salisbury patrolman began pursuing the speeding 94′ Honda and attempted to pullover the cyclist near Fisher and Church. Lowry jammed on the accelerator, vibrating past Fulton Street and gliding into turns now at 60 miles-per-hour. The was one race he seemed sure to win. Gunning the Honda 94′ up to 80 miles-per-hour and making Ellis and Marsh as a dot on his rear view, Lowry soon flew by Salisbury High where a second patrolman joined the pursuit.
Lowry roared onto Highway 29 until his motorcycle vibrated, wobbled, and spilled hard on Jake Alexander Blvd. He lost his shoe. Lowry more shocked than hurt saw the pursuing officer get out of his patrol car with intentions of making an arrest. No such luck. Lowry remounted his thrumming 94′ Honda and soon was flying into Faith, N.C. where he passed car after car as if they were glued to the black top. Once out on Rainy Road a cooler voice prompted him to end his flight at Depot and Railroad Streets. Here the cyclist gave up to Rockwell Police. Score one for the Police.
Lowry was arrested and charged with 2 counts of fleeing to elude (felony), 2 counts of failing to stop for an officer (felony), property damage (misdemeanor), and careless and reckless driving.
Lowry’s previous record:
Under a $20,000 secured bond, Lowry is currently in the Rowan County Detention Center.
