RFP Staff
♦On Monday December 23rd the Rowan Free Press staff will elect the Rowan Free Press Person of the Year for 2013. This 2nd annual race could turn out to be a cliff hanger because a number of outstanding persons are in the running:
• Rowan County Commissioner Vice-Chairman Craig Pierce whose strong leadership and creativity has led to a number of successful county initiatives.
• Rowan County Commission Chairman Jim Sides, last year’s winner, was a powerful force behind the county commissioners and the county’s many accomplishments.
• Senator Andrew Brock was a driving force in the state senate and helped move the Rowan County Airport De-annexation into the fast lane.
• Rep. Harry Warren has had another productive year and kept contact with the county through his informational town halls.
• Rep. Carl Ford has done yeoman’s job in his first year in the legislature.
• Lynn Moody, the new Rowan-Salisbury Schools Superintendent, landed in a problematic school system and showed immediate leadership. A strong finish at the very end of the year could catapult her into the mix especially if she guides the school system to higher ground in the lengthy Central Office debate.
• County Manager Gary Page also is due some major consideration because of his ongoing performance.
