♦The staff voting for RFP Person of the Year 2013 was a multi-ballot affair with two names scrapping “nip and tuck” with their Rowan County accomplishments: last year’s Person of the Year 2012 Chairman Jim Sides and the Vice-chairman Craig Pierce. The final tally had Vice-Chairman Craig Pierce and his resume, of behind the scenes accomplishments and leadership, gaining him this year’s Rowan Free Press Person of the Year 2013.
Craig Pierce, besides being the other half of the Facebook Funhouse “Fire Jim Sides–Fire Craig Pierce”, has large portfolio of major accomplishments and initiatives where his leadership and creativity held sway. They include:
• The I-85 Interchange. Craig was one of the sparks behind I-85 interchange into South Rowan. The Interchange will be both an economic development tool to an area in need of economic development and it will improve the speedy response of EMT vehicles to the area.
• County Airport De-annexation and various improvements to the airport runway and hanger space.
• The Pierce Proposals for the Schools and site options for the Central Office.
