RFP Staff
♦ On Thursday several angry parents contacted the RFP about an incident of a 16 year-old student being threatened with a handgun at Salisbury High as parents often do after campus fights, lockdowns, and stolen Apple laptops. Yesterday we confirmed the incident with a schoolboard member and learned from Salisbury Police sources that a student Cameron Dill, 16, from the Maupin Avenue area was a victim of an assault with a gun Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. on the Salisbury High campus at 500 Lincolnton Road. The young man was menaced with a handgun. The incident was reported to the police the next morning.
Safety in our public schools is of the utmost importance. When parents experience their youngsters or other youngsters being threatened, attacked, robbed, bullied or hear of drugs or gangs in the schools it isn’t long before they withdraw their students and send them to more disciplined learning environments like charter schools, private schools, or even begin homeschooling them. Parents often pick up and move out of areas to find safer public schools elsewhere.
The incident remains under investigation.
Citizens having any knowledge about this crime are urged to call the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333. If you fear retribution, want to remain anonymous and possibly collect an award of up to $1,000, information can be submitted 24/7 via the web: http://tips.salisburyrowancrimestoppers.org/ or by calling the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
