♦ According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement sources Christopher Lee Erwin, 32, on the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted List and formerly living at 407 N. Long Street in Salisbury, was arrested late Wednesday evening at the Motel 8 property on 925 Bendix Drive in Salisbury. He surrendered to Sheriff’s Office deputies without incident. Erwin was sought by law enforcement since he allegedly assaulted a deputy and eluded Sheriff’s Office deputies in a stolen golf cart on Tuesday December the 13th.
This morning Erwin was charged with resist/delay/obstruct a public officer (misdemeanor), assault with a deadly weapon on a public officer (felony), fleeing to elude (felony), possession of stolen goods (felony), carrying a concealed weapon (misdemeanor), possession of a firearm etc. by a convicted felon prohibited (felony), common law robbery (felony), possession of a schedule II controlled substance (felony), possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule II controlled substance (felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor).
Under a secured $125,000 bond, Erwin is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.

“According to sources in the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement Christopher Lee Erwin, 32, formerly of 407 N. Long Street, is a wanted man facing a laundry list of charges.
On Tuesday after 11 a.m. a Sheriff’s deputy spotted a green Honda on South Main Street near Rowan Mill Road allegedly driving “unusually”. The Honda’s license turned up suspended on a state database. Immediately the deputy turned on his vehicle’s blue lights and soon after his siren as he sped up in pursuit. The Honda veered into Balfour Drive before fled up a dirt trail to Salisbury’s Rolling Hills Golf Club where it jolted to a halt in a brush pile.

Erwin left the vehicle and the deputy ordered him to stop. The deputy, after several warnings, employed his Taser with little effect. The two wrestled on the ground with the suspect grabbing at the deputy’s sidearm. Erwin, a bull necked 6 foot 250 pounder, battered the smaller deputy with a barrage of heavy-handed punches, stunning him.
Erwin fled on foot across the golf course with the deputy doggedly following him. Next Erwin’s escape landed him on a golf cart which he drove onto Mooresville Road.
With the Salisbury Police and the N.C. Highway patrol joining in the chase, Erwin jettisoned his golf cart and disappeared on the 1400 block of Ludwick Heights Lane.
In a search of Erwin’s green Honda investigators found 21 grams of crack, digital scales, and a metal spoon with an unknown burnt residue on it. A short distance from the Honda, investigators located a 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun. The deputy was treated for minor injuries.
A magistrate’s warrant contained Erwin’s list of charges. Erwin was charged with resisting a public officer (misdemeanor), assault on a public officer inflicting physical injury (felony), fleeing to elude arrest (felony), possession of a stolen firearm (felony), carrying a concealed weapon (misdemeanor), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony), common law robbery (felony), possession of a schedule II controlled substance (felony), possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule II controlled substance (felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor).”
